The successful applicant is expected to conduct research but any teaching in the Faculty of Science will depend on the joint agreement of the faculty council and the board of the Science Institute, who will decide in particular whether such teaching shall be counted as part of the researcher's duties.
The position is especially intended for a young scientist who has recently finished his/her doctorate. The application should be accompanied by a detailed account of the applicant's education and scientific experience, as well as research plans. It is desirable that the application is accompanied by letters of recommendation from 1 to 3 qualified persons working in the applicant's field concerning his/her education and scientific experience. These letters should be in sealed envelopes and will be treated as confidential.
Salary will be according to the present pay-settlement between the University Teachers' Union and the Minister of Finance. Applications should be sent to the Managing Director, University Science Institute, Dunhaga 3, 107-Reykjavík, Iceland, to arrive no later than 19th February 2001.
