POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS IN MATHEMATICAL/THEORETICAL PHYSICS The Science Institute, University of Iceland, expects to have two openings at the postdoctoral level in mathematical/theoretical physics, starting in the fall of 2002. The initial appointments are for 2 years, but may possibly be extended for a third year.
The group currently includes Peter Austing, Thordur Jonsson and Larus Thorlacius, plus students. The main research interests are in random surfaces, quantum gravity and string theory. We belong to two European research networks with nodes throughout Europe, "Geometry and Disorder: from membranes to quantum gravity" funded by the European Science Foundation and "Discrete Random Geometry: from solid state physics to quantum gravity" (see http://www.ma.hw.ac.uk/~des/IHP.html) funded by the European Union under the IHP programme. We also belong to a Nordic Network together with other string theory groups in Scandinavia and we have an exchange agreement with CERN.
For further information on the Institute and the University of Iceland, see www.hi.is and www.raunvis.hi.is. For enquiries contact thjons@raunvis.hi.is or lth@hi.is.
The deadline for applications is 31 January 2002 . Applicants should provide a CV, a list of publications, along with a brief description of research interests, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation received by the deadline. All material should be mailed to
