Research scientist in the applied mathematics division of the Science Institute, University of Iceland

Applications are invited for the post of research scientist in the applied mathematics division. The appointee is expected to conduct research in statistics and be attached to the University of Iceland Statistics Centre. The appointee is also expected to do some teaching but the extent of this and the corresponding remuneration are dependent on negotiation.

Applicants must have completed a PhD in statistics or a related subject before the appointment starts.

The applicant will be hired temporarily for three years. The position gives a research scientist early in their carrier an opportunity to dedicate themselves to research for three years. Furthermore, the research scientist will strengthen the research and other activities in the division, guarantee the flow of fresh ideas through the division and ensure that necessary knowledge in statistics is in place. At the end of the three year period it will not be recommended that the position becomes permanent.

The procedure for processing the applications, evaluating the applicants and hiring are laid out in the Universities Act no. 85/2008 and the regulations of the University of Iceland no. 569/2009.

They should include certification of education and previous employment, list of publications, an account of the applicant's scientific activities, and other relevant activities, and a plan for future research in the event that the applicant is appointed. It should be apparent from the application what projects the applicant has worked on, what projects he or she is working on at present, and what, in detail, he or she intends to work on in the event of appointment. The applicant should indicate up to eight publications that he or she considers weigh most for the post in question. Copies of these publications only should accompany the application; alternatively the applicant can indicate where they can be accessed electronically. In the case of more than one author the applicant's contribution should be made clear. In addition to this material the applicant should submit two to three references for his or her previous teaching and administrative experience as appropriate. Applications and application materials that are not submitted electronically should be sent in duplicate to the Division of Science and Research, University of Iceland, Sæmundargötu 6, 101--Reykjavk. All applications will be answered and applicants informed of the decision when taken.
